RULES OF BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Beach Volleyball has been an Olympic sport since 1996. It’s played on a sand-based court by two teams of two. The points go up to 21. To win a set you’ll have to win with at least two clear points difference. And to win the game you’ll need two sets. Is the set score 1-1, then a third set will be the deciding set. That set will go till 15 points. Every 7 points you’ll change courtside, so that each team has the same (weather) circumstances (sun and wind). When the ball is passed to the other side of the net, ‘soft contact’ is not allowed. This means you are not allowed to give direction to the ball. A block counts as contact so after blocking, the ball is only allowed to be touched twice on that side of the net.

DIFFERENCE WITH VOLLEYBALL

With ‘traditional’ volleyball, each team consists of more members and the team members have a certain position. In beach volleyball the players don’t have a fixed position, although usually one of the players almost always blocks and the other player almost always plays a defending roll on the backside of the court. Playing beach volleyball there is no line under the net, so you can never commit a line fault.
