Fencing

Fencing has a rich history. Its roots are going back to the development of swordmanship for duels and self defence. Since the start of the Olympic Games in 1896 fencing was part of the Olympic program and practiced all over the world. A challenging and fascinating sport!

Top athletes combine physical speed and skills with stamina and tactical insight. Even if you don´t have an Olympic dream it is fun, exciting and intense.

Fencing at VU Sports centre

Balance, speed, coordination and respect are key words, which are combined with technical and tactical classes mixed with more playful forms.

Fencing at VU Sports centre

What is fencing?

Fencing is a duel between a man or woman against another man of woman. Both players push to the limit to ´eliminate´ the other player. It is the best-case scenario: fighting without hurting the other. Fencing is an individual sport which you can start practicing from six years old and onwards. By dedication and practice you can improve your style and game step by step. For students, fencing offers a creative way to confront your opponent in a fighting situation with discipline and sportsmanship. Balance, speed, coordination and respect are key words, which are combined with technical and tactical classes mixed with more playful forms.

Fencing classes

Have you gotten curious and would you like to learn how to fence? The VU Sports centre offers classes every Monday. Fencing is done with a foil, which is a light and easy to handle pointed weapon with a blunt point. To participate inside sports shoes and a sportive pants are sufficient. Other attributes, like masks, vests, gloves and weapons, are available at the Sports centre.
