Body building

Building and shaping your body in order to gain as much muscle as possible. That is basically what bodybuilding is. Not every person who is fond of strength training is a body builder. And not everybody builder sticks to strictly strength training.

Body building became very popular in the United States, in Santa Monica on ‘Muscle Beach’, where men like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dave Draper worked out fanatically. In the Netherlands, body building doesn’t automatically ring a positive bell, but body building entails a lot more than many people think.

Body building at VU Sports centre

It's all about working on your perfect body. Opposed to strength training, body building doesn’t aim at improving certain skills. Carrying out the exercises is done to reach the highest possible hypertrophy.

The difference between body building and strength training

The difference between strength training and body building is defined by the ultimate objective. At body building the main goal is increasing the muscle; increasing muscle mass and making the muscles bigger. This goal is reached by working out and specific diet.

Opposed to strength training, body building doesn’t aim at improving certain skills. Carrying out the exercises is done to reach the highest possible hypertrophy.

For strength training working out with heavy weights is part of a bigger goal. It is focused on generally getting stronger and obtaining a more athletic body, although specific goals can be set as well. An ice skater of speed cyclist usually uses strength training to increase the muscle strength in the legs, so he or she can skate of cycle faster.

At the VU Sports Centre you can get the guidance of skilled fitness instructors, so you can work on a stronger body and increased muscles.
