Pilates at VU Sports centre

You’ll be more conscious if your posture, movements and breathing pattern. You’ll improve your shape, strengthen your muscles and because every moment is carried out with a focus on breathing, the class has a relaxing aspect as well.

Pilates classes

The VU Sports Centre Pilates classes are low-impact, meaning that your heart rate won’t be pumped up (much) and you shouldn’t get out of breath while carrying out the exercises. Improving your powerhouse is a central theme of every Pilates class. The powerhouse is formed by the following muscles: the transversal abdominal muscle, the deeper back muscles, the pelvic muscle and the diaphragm. Together they ensure that the pelvis and the spine are stabilized. During the Pilates classes at VU Sport Centre you will learn how to tighten and how to relax your powerhouse.

The way of working out at Pilates is actually a combination of yoga and strength training. You’ll become more flexible, you’ll work very concentrated and coordinated on carrying out the exercises (yoga) and you’ll develop you muscles and physical fitness because of the low pace in which the exercises are executed (strength training).

Pilates is for everyone, both women and men, both young and old. During the classes you’ll receive excellent guidance in carrying out the exercises, while you decide on the intensity of the exercises.

What do you need for Pilates?

The Pilates exercises are carried out on a mat. You’ll find them at the sport studio of VU Sport Centre. But of course, you are more than welcome to bring your own mat if preferred. You won’t need any sport shoes, because you’ll wear just socks or go barefoot. Besides that, we recommend you bring a bottle of water and a towel. Pay attention: Using a towel is obliged at the VU Sports Centre, both for the group classes and in the fitness areas.
