What is pole dancing?

Pole dancing is a type of fitness, without heavy weights or boring treadmills. You can do it at home, at the gym, at a dance academy and even outside. There are many different forms, like expressing a song during the workout, pole fitness (hardcore techniques), pole art (using pole dancing as a form of art) and floor work (sensual movements on the floor and around the pole). Pole dancing is very intensive and must surely be considered a sport. It might even become an Olympic sport!

It is a full body workout; every muscle in your body is trained, but mainly your core, arms and legs. Those who don´t have much strength will become strong! Also, your flexibility, coordination and balance will improve. And let´s not forget your endurance level. Those are merely the physical benefits, there are also plenty mental advantages to pole dancing.

Many pole dancers, no matter age or body type, say that they are in the best shape of their life and have never felt better. Regardless of your level, there is always a challenge and always a victory. That is what makes pole dancing so inspiring and powerful.

Pole dancing is a group lesson at the VU Sports Centre. This class is very popular and fills up quickly. If you want to be sure of a spot, it is recommended to make a reservation. This can be done on the day itself at the desk, or two days in advance online. To do so, look at the sports schedule on this webpage. Click on Make reservation and you will be directed to mijn.sportcentrumvu.nl. Once you have logged in (use the email address known at the VU Sports Centre and apply for your password via ´forgot password´ if necessary) you can find the classes which you can reserve under the header ‘Reserve’. We would like to remind you that this is possible two days in advance.

Would you like to try this class? No problem! For new members, it is possible to try one day of our entire sports portfolio for free. So, come and participate in a trial training session! We provide maximum 1 free day pass per person, please register at the desk at either one of our two locations.
