New groupslesson: Mindfulness

Mindfulness (in group class form) will be for the first time on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 20:45 – 21:45 uur in studio 2.

Living more mindfully, dealing better with stress and brooding thoughts
It helps you in daily life to relax more and make choices that are good for you. The actions you take in daily life are prompted from your thinking and feeling. They are mostly unconscious automatic patterns that often help, but sometimes they aren't. Feeling stressed or gloomy or brooding is an effect of an unconscious automatic pattern that doesn't help you. Practicing mindfulness teaches you to recognize those patterns, giving you more control over your emotions, feelings and behavior. With mindfulness practice you improve your health and get practical tools for a relaxed and energetic daily life. Even if you do not experience stress or anxiety you are welcome to attend mindfulness classes. Want to learn to meditate, deepen your meditation experience or are you just curious about what mindfulness is? The class is open to everyone. Please feel especially welcome.

Mindfulness classes
Mindfulness classes at Sportcentrum VU consist of a mix of meditations, mindful yoga called hatha yoga, psychoeducation and insightful mindfulness exercises. Each class is built around a specific theme such as breathing, stress or thoughts. The classes are designed to become more connected to yourself. They relax, inspire and encourage change. And the great thing is: you don't have to do much to do this. Bringing a curious open mind is all it takes. Mindfulness classes at sportcentrum VU have their origins in the MBSR - mindfulness based stress reduction - training, developed by molecular biologist and meditation practitioner Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979.

Supplies
For mindfulness, you don't need much. It's nice to have comfortable clothes on and a water bottle with you. Bring your own yoga mat and possibly a meditation cushion. If you don't have a meditation cushion, that's totally fine too. Do you like to sit on a chair in mindfulness class? VU Sports Center chairs are available at the studio.
