Basketball today is played in two forms
Traditional 5x5 on a whole field or the new trendy 3x3 game on half a field with modified rules. You can come to Sportcentrum VU for both forms!
Recreational basketball
Starting September 2, 2025, you can participate in recreational basketball at the VU Sports Center every Tuesday from 8:30 p.m. at the Uilenstede location in Amstelveen. From 8:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., we offer a program for beginners if there is sufficient interest (minimum of 8 participants) on 1 court. Players of all levels are welcome on the other two courts, and the group will be divided into teams so that there is room for everyone.
To participate in these recreational basketball sessions, you must purchase a separate basketball subscription. A basketball subscription is mandatory. It is not possible to participate with another membership or subscription to the sports center. It is now possible to use the basketball courts on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. with a basketball subscription.
Anyone can participate in basketball, men, women, young and old! Tournaments will also be organized on these evenings during the season. There is also a WhatsApp group for all participants. Here you will be kept informed about the tournaments and other interesting news. Ask the coaches for access to this WhatsApp group.
All basketball players must wear indoor shoes that have not been worn outside. This is for the safety of all users of the Sports Center.
